  • Transforming our conversation begins on the inside with the right heart attitude. As we saturate our minds with the Word of God, our hearts will soften, and we'll begin to respond differently. Through the Holy Spirit, we will be convicted of times when our speech is inappropriate. He will teach us to be more aware of what we say and to stop ourselves before we speak amiss.

God will be glorified and others will be blessed when we practice grace-filled speech.

  • "...because God has said,

    'Never will I leave you;
     never will I forsake you.'

    So we say with confidence,

'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?'"

    Hebrews 13: 5-6

"Sometimes, the only way we will learn to lean on God is by finding that all other supports are gone."

  •   Anyone sweating out there?  The past few days have been so intense people have been sitting on blocks of ice, crowding around air-conditioning units, running through the sprinklers (you know you’ve done it), and sweating, sweating, SWEATING!  You know, high temperatures are not just uncomfortable, they’re dangerous.

It’s true, intense heat like this can really mess you up if you don’t take proper precautions. Heat can kill by pushing the human body beyond its limits. Under normal conditions, the body's internal thermostat produces perspiration that evaporates and cools the body. However, in extreme heat and high humidity, evaporation is slowed and the body must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. Elderly people, young children, and those who are sick or overweight are more likely to become victims of extreme heat. Because men sweat more than women, they are more susceptible to heat illness because they become more quickly dehydrated (www.disastercenter.com).

Another dangerous thing happens when it gets hot outside.  We tend to get angry, irritated, impatient and frustrated much easier.  We blow the horn in the car, raise our voices, clinch our fists, and grit our teeth.  IT’S ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT! And with sweat running down our brow, no one, and I mean NO One better get in your way.

    Friend, some water and cool fan aren’t going to fix this problem.  This is not an external problem: high temperatures, “stupid people”, barking dogs or steaming car engines. No, when you boil over – what is INSIDE you comes out.  You can blame it on something outside but you know, ultimately, it’s something inside.  Jesus Christ put it this way;

“Good people bring good things out of the good they stored in their hearts. But evil people bring evil things out of the evil they stored in their hearts. People speak the things that are in their hearts"  (Luke 6:45)

See, it comes out of the heart – your core.

Such uncontrolled anger will leave you empty and ultimately alone:

“Don't hang out with angry people; don't keep company with hotheads. Bad temper is contagious - don't get infected”  (Proverbs 22:24-25.)

So, friends, let’s chill a bit.  Relax. Count to ten.  Buy a squirt gun.  Eat some ice.  When someone’s car is blocking your way or traffic is at a stand-still, smile, breathe deep and give them a few seconds before blasting them with the horn & revving your engine.  When the drive-thru isn’t moving fast enough, just be glad there is such a thing.

It’s hot outside but keep cool inside.  We’ll all be better for it – including you!

I was listening to a song this morning called "The Blessing" by, John Waller.  I've decided...this is my theme song for the year...(listen to it!!  I put it as an attachment)

Let it be said of us
While we walked among the living
Let it be said of us
By the ones we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That we lived to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That we gave to reach the dying
Let it be said of us
By the fruit we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That our legacy is blessing for life

    This day
You set life, you set death right before us,
    This day
Every blessing and curse is a choice now
And we will choose to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That our hearts belonged to Jesus
Let it be said of us
That we spoke the words of life
Let it be said of us
That our heritage is blessing for life

For your Kingdom, for our Children
For the sake of every nation

One of my really amazing friends made me this notebook where every day I'm supposed to write down why I am blessed.  Then I can look back on it, and see how God really blesses me - even in the little things.  In this song, though, it talks about being a blessing for others.  And while it's still good to recognize how I'm blessed...because it reminds me how much God loves me...it's also good to focus on being that blessing for others...so they can fill up their own blessing book.  :)  I don't want people to remember me as someone who's just a "good person" - I want them to know me by how much I talk about Jesus...and hopefully how much they can see Him inside of me.  I know I still have a lot of work to do...

  •  I was walking down the boardwalk yesterday at Virginia Beach, and these two guys walk up to me and hand me a tract!!  I told them I was already saved so they could save it for someone else, but they gave it to me anyway.  I opened it up and this is what was inside:

Alright, let's flip the channel on over to MTV or BET.  Oh come on, just look at them!  You think they're perfect and have it all.  The money, the fly guys, the perfect bodies that fit into slinky smooth barely there outfits.  They even have their hair "did," as Missy Elliot says.  When we usually end up doing is wishing that we looked exactly like the girls portrayed in those music videos.

But after you have gotten your daily Music Video TRL fix, you can't help but go to that mirror and look at yourself and say "What do they have that I don't?"  Then you start comparing yourself to the standards that you think you need to meet in order to fit in.

The damage that it does to the female brain can lead some to starving themselves, trying to mess with drugs and alcohol to fit in, and at the lowest, depression and thoughts or attempts of suicide.  When we are going through our pre-teen and teenage years, we struggle with very low self-esteem.

The standard set by the media is difficult and impossible for us to meet.  So why can't anyone just like me for me?  The truth is we don't need to rock the Gucci or Prada, because somebody already loves us, and furthermore likes us for who we are, just as is.  In fact, God is the very One that created all of us beautiful.  According to him, I am beautiful because I have been created in God's image, and you know what?  His image is the only one worth living up to.  What makes us unique and beautiful is when we stop being like others and we begin to love and celebrate the very person that God thought was important enough to create.  So next time you're flippin' through the channels or a magazine, just keep in mind you are already made in the perfect image.

You are loved, and you are fine just as is...don't worry about what everyone else is doing.

Pray and God will hear you.  God is always there to help you.  Just talk to him.

"You, Lord, will always treat me with kindness.  Your love never never fails.  You have made us what we are.  Don't give up on us now!"  - Psalm 138:8 -

"You are the one who put me together inside my mother's body, and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me.  Everything you do is marvelous!  Of this I have no doubt."  - Psalm 139:13,14 -

    Now check this out:
"Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper.  Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise...and God, who gives peace, will be with you."  - Philippians 4:8, 9b -

Thanks Jesus...I needed to hear that.
